The ballot provides everyone with a chance to apply for tickets over several weeks, so there’s no rush. In fact, it doesn’t make a difference when you apply – it can be on the first day the ballot opens or on the day the ballot is closing – you still have the same chance of securing tickets.
The nature of the ballot means you’re more likely to get tickets to sessions with lower demand. So Birmingham 2022 has set out some helpful tips here to help guide you through the process:
1. AVAILABILITY INDICATORS
There are useful indicators on the list of sessions when you apply for tickets. Tickets that are in high demand are indicated, so you can increase your chances in the ballot by opting for the sessions that are highlighted as having ‘availability’.
2. EARLIER SESSIONS
Apply for sessions which include the earlier rounds and heats as they are likely to have greater availability than medal sessions and you can also apply for more tickets. For some sessions you can apply for as many as 8 or 10 tickets.
3. GO FOR THE BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE
Category A and B tickets will be in the best location for that particular sport and therefore closest to the action. For some events, tickets for lower price categories (C and D) are in high demand. Where this is the case, opting for category A or B tickets could give you a better chance of securing tickets to these sessions.
4. TRY SOMETHING NEW
With 19 sports and 8 Para sports, why not experience a sport you’ve never seen before? Weightlifting, lawn bowls, badminton, table tennis, judo or rugby 7s will all provide world-class sporting entertainment.
5. THE BIGGER THE VENUE, THE MORE TICKETS THERE ARE
A number of the sports will be held in large venues, such as athletics at the newly redeveloped Alexander Stadium, women’s cricket T20 at Edgbaston Stadium, rugby 7’s at Coventry Stadium and gymnastics at Arena Birmingham. These larger capacity venues will offer a greater chance of success in the ballot as there are more tickets available.
6. CELEBRATE THE END OF THE GAMES IN STYLE
The Opening Ceremony is always very popular and tickets will be in high demand but the Closing Ceremony will also be a party to remember, with athletes and spectators celebrating the end of the Games in spectacular style.
Whilst the ballot is open, you can apply for tickets to any of the 286 sessions of sport during the Games, plus the Opening and Closing ceremonies. You can also increase your chances of being successful in the ballot by opting yes to the ‘Increase Your Chances’ tick box which appears on ‘Your Basket’ page.
This means that if you are unsuccessful in receiving tickets for a session at the price you applied for, you can choose to be automatically entered into the ballot for the next highest available price category. This increases your chance of receiving tickets in the ballot phase.
The nature of the ballot means you might get all of the tickets you apply for, you might get some of them or you might not get any at all. But don’t worry, there will be other ways to purchase tickets closer to the Games.
